Dahi puri

Dahi puri or dahi batata puri is a famous street food . It is made from deep fried puris stuffed with boiled and mashed potatoe, boiled peas, green chutney, sweet chutney, curd/dahi, and topped with onion, finey chopped coriander leaves and sev. In addition to these, we can also add sprouted green grams.

Dahi puri chat or dahi batata puri is very easy to make, and it is also very tastier and healthier than the chats that we get from outside or streetside chats/street food.

Preparation of dahi puri chat is not so much difficult, if you have already prepared deep fried puri, green chutney & sweet chutney.

While making dahi puri or dahi batata puri, the curd that we use shoul be fresh, chilled and it should not be sour. Dahi puri tatses better if you use sweet curd, however we add sugar to the curd in this dahi puri chat recipe. You can also skip sugar, if you don't like sweet curd.



Ingredients : 

Puri
Boiled and mashed potato (2 medium sized potato)
White/green peas (soaked) - 1 bowl
Baking soda - pinch
Curd - 1 bowl
Green chutney
Sweet chutney/Tamarind chutney
Chilli powder - 1-2 tsp
Cumin powder -  1-2 tsp
Chat masala - 2 tsp
Onion - 1
Coriander leaves
Sev
Salt


Method : 

Boil the soaked white peas (you can also use green peas) in a cooker with little salt, turmeric and a pinch of cooking soda for 2 whistles.




Boil the potatoes. Peel and mash them and add red chilli powder, cumin powder, chat masala, little salt. Mix well and keep it aside. Take curd and add little sugar to it. Mix well. Prepare the green chutney and sweet chutney. Finely chop the onion, coriander leaves. Keep it aside.



Take a puri. Make a hole in it. Add potato mixture






Add sweet chutney and green chutney.





Finally garnish with onion, coriander leaves and sev. Tasty dahi puri is now ready to serve.

Sweet chutney | Tamarind chutney | Tamarind Dates chutney | Imli chutney recipe



Sweet chutney/ Tamarind chutney/ Tamarind dates chutney or Imli chutney sweet and tangy chutney made with deseeded tamarind and dates. Sweet chutney is usually used in chats like pani puri, dahi puri, masala puri, bhel puri or with snacks like samosa, sandwich, aloo tikki or any other snacks.

Basically, this sweet chutney is prepared with jaggery and tamarind pulp. It also tatses good. However dates are added in order to enhance the taste and it also gives good texture for sweet chutney.

Usually I prepare sweet chutney whenver I plan to prepare chats like pani puri, dahi puri or snacks like sandwich, aloo tikki or any other spicy snacks.


Ingredients:

Tamarind(Deseeded) - 1/2 cup
Dates(Deseeded) - 1/2 cup
Cumin powder/Jeera powder - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp(Optional)
Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp(Optional)


Method:

Take a pan. Add deseeded tamarind and dates to the pan. Add 1 cup of water. Let them cook for 5-10 mins or until they become soft.

 



Add cooked dates and tamarind in to the mixer jar. Grind in to smooth paste




Filter the Dates-tamarind chutney, by adding little water to it. 




Add the filtered sweet chutney in to the pan. Adjust the consistency of sweet chutney by adding required amount of water. Add cumin powder, pepper powder and red chilli powder. Mix well & let it boil for 2-3 mins. 




Serve this sweet chutney/ tamarind chutney / tamarind dates chutney with any chats like pani puri, dahi puri, bhel puri or tea time snacks like samosa, aloo tikki, sandwich etc.

Green chutney | Green chutney for chats | Sandwich chutney

Green chutney is often used with most of the snacks and while making chats. It enhances the taste of any dish, & also it is healthy, because fresh leafy greens like coriander leaves and mint leaves are the main ingredients used here in this recipe.

I usually make this green chutney for chats like Pani puri, Dahi puri, Sandwiches,Veg kathi rolls etc.
You can also serve it with Samosa, Cutlet, Aloo tikki, Vada pav or any other chats or snacks.
You can store this green chutney in a jar or container, & refrigerate it for 3-4 days or upto 1 week.


Ingredients:

Coriander leaves -1 cup
Mint leaves/Pudina - 1/2 cup
Green chillies - 1-2
Ginger - Small piece
Cumin seeds/Jeera - 1tsp
Roasted channa dal/ Fried gram/Hurigadale - 1 to 2 tsp(Optional)
Black salt - 1tsp
Salt - As per tatse
Lemon juice -1 tsp

Method:

Take all the ingredients mentioned above to the mixer jar. Add little water. Grind in to smooth paste.



Add 1 tsp of lemon juice. This step is optional.
Serve this green chutney with Snacks / Chats /Sandwich.



Tips : 

  • Use fresh coriander leaves and Mint leaves/Pudina while making green chutney for better result.
  • You can change the quantity/ratio of coriander leaves and mint leaves as per your preference. Here I have used 2:1 ratio.
  • Use of Roasted channa dal/fried gram makes the green chutney thick, & also enhances the flavor of green chutney.
